I've got the JCW factory backbox on mine, it's loud and lots of nice burbles and pops on the gear change. Smile

There's a youtube clip somewhere, I will find it for you.

Found it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CeDy6nF6Vhg Sounds better when driving tbh.

Yes! Sounds a whole lot better I can tell you! Thats all the dealer will do on the exhaust stage 1 upgrade anyhow! You are talking 2nd gen?

It sounds immense - very noticable: when it was on mine I got some surprised stares from a couple of fellas in an AC Cobra because my exhaust was burbling as loud as theirs as we drew up next to each other at the lights lol. And it pops and crackles about ten times more than stock.

No - and to be honest a back box or catback won't affect performance, only sound. Changing the downpipe on the R56 is the only way to significantly increase airflow and thus performance. So a Milltek downpipe and JCW Backbox would be awesome!

Here's me about to add this very same thread! Laughing

It needs to be louder Twisted Evil

The next question is have you guys experienced any adverse effects:
1) Fuel economy?
2) Too noisy at motorway speeds?
3) Issues with service/warranty etc....

Thanks in advance!

1) No
2) No, I found it was pretty peaceful unless you were hammering it in 2nd or 3rd
3) Even if fitted by dealer, if it causes a problem anywhere on the car that can be attributed to it being fitted and used, that problem won't be covered by warranty. Pretty unlikely with an exhaust since it the last link in the combustion chain, but worth pointing out.

Thanks guys, great advice Smile

Last questions, promise!
1) As asked above, how much did it cost?
2) JCW air filter thingy or bung in a K&N (or similar)
3) Any other types of backboxes worth looking into?

Thanks (again) Embarassed

Milltek Very Happy Cat backs, I think the best are Milltek or the JCW, both sound really nice. JCW airbox is a great upgrade too Very Happy

1) £280 inc postage from Chris at Woodmans, Blackpool
2) Get a used JCW airbox with an ITG filter - this is the best combo
3) No

Sorry for the thread resurrection Very Happy but can you buy the back boxes from Mini and will they fit it for you?

Any idea on current cost for purchase and fitting to a 2007 Cooper S?

I've seen that thread, but it's in Carlisle which is quite some distance, thought it might be cheaper to buy new fitted than courier and then fit?

In case you guys hadn't guessed I sold my R56 Cooper S however, I took the JCW box and Pipercross air filter off.
Both are for sale and can be collected from Aldershot or Camberley.

I'm open to offers!
