PostSubject: Lohen + Performance Torque = :D   19th March 2010, 21:22

I have just returned from part 2 of my MAR MAA preparations (or at least that is my excuse for having this work done Wink), so for anyone interested here are all the details. Before starting, the car was running at around 175bhp (based on the manufacturers spec).

Firstly I called in to Lohen, for a couple of modifications:

  • Milltek Downpipe
  • Forge Intercooler
  • Alta Induction Kit
  • Alta Blow Off Value
  • Forge Strut Brace

(Unforunatly the Milltek exhaust wouldn't fit on the R57, due to its extra size getting in the way of the braces on the underside of the convertible Sad)

After an overnight stay in a thoroughly unremarkable Premier Inn, I was beginning to feel a bit like Alan Partridge. Luckily I didn't have to wait long before being able to pick up my MINI Smile

At this point, I'll give a big thumbs up to Lohen for the fantastic service they performed, both friendly and professional. After picking up the car I headed for Performance Torque along some fantastic windy roads, which was a real blast, the difference was certainly noticeable, much more fun to drive!

I didn't know the full extent of the performance enhancements till I reached the P-Torque dyno. Before Will got a chance to work his magic, the car was putting out 200bhp with the changes made by Lohen alone Smile

After a bit of a wait while Will worked out how to cram as many extra horses in under the bonnet as possible, another dyno run revealed the final figure for the two days work, a grand total of 231bhp Exclamation

Needless to say, it was a bit like the difference between night and day, much more fun to drive now Very Happy It has a much more eager feel, and the power seems to just keep coming cheers.

According to Will at P-Torque, once the cars electoronics have all adapted to the changes, it should be pushing 235-240bhp Shocked

Anyway, all in all a High for both Lohen and P-Torque Smile

Sounds like a fantastic improvement over base, you sure won't get left behind and with the stonking brakes you'll have the stopping power as well Very Happy

Hehe, that is what I am hoping Smile I thought it wise to sort the stopping out first before the going though, it can be a bit dangerous the other way around!

Woah, you are living the dream dude! You must have had a strong engine to start with - the downpipe and air intake won't have added 25bhp that's for sure, but to be up to 231bhp is amazing. Where do you most feel the difference? In the low down revs or high, or all over? lol

Probably more like you wish you had the sort of money I had at the start of the week, going to be living on beans on toast for the next few months I think Wink Laughing

According to Will, it is performing best in the 3-5k range, however I can't say I noticed anything too specific, it seemed very noticeable no matter the revs Smile

Is a blow off valve the same as a dump valve?

Really!!

2nd Gen

200bhp - new airbox and a remap

1st Gen

200bhp - pulley, intercooler, airbox, exhaust, and all the labour to go with!

R53's can make 200 bhp with just a pulley, simples! On the JCW's the pulley and airbox are making the main difference in power compared to the S.

Remapping an R56 is more expensive than a pulley Wink

I agree it's pretty like for like in costs (unless you can fit pulley yourself)

210bhp target

Gen 1 - Pulley £50, fitting £175. That will get you to 190-200bhp but beyond that you have to hope airbox does trick (£139 dave f) for the extra 10hp or you are looking at a smaller pulley and intercooler, polished manifold, etc
Gen 2 - Remap £375

The difference is, you don't need ANY mechanical modifications beyond stock with an R56 - just a remap, which can then be removed any time and reflashed any time.

It's much less hassle when it comes to trading/selling than having to have pulley out, etc.

On the other hand, the gen 1 engine is much stronger and can take big power increases. The worry is that the gen 2 is a weaker block - remember MINI had to upgrade the internals before they offered 211hp on JCW, so they would say from a manufacturer's standpoint that a remap to the same amount goes beyond the standard block's tolerances. That was what put me off re-mapping Scuzzy in the end.
