PostSubject: Spray painting chrome   3rd July 2010, 14:46

Just wanted to check before I buy the wrong stuff!

Will any (ie stuff from halfords) spray paint work on exterior chrome?
Or do I need special stuff for it to stick?
Do I need a clear coat at the end, or can I just do a thin coats of gloss paint?

Cheers

Your choice depends on colour. If you're going matt black I've heard plasti-dip is good stuff, waiting to try it out for myself!

Possibly rub it down with some super fine grit sandpaper-ish type stuff so that the paint 'keys' (sticks) to the chrome finish Wink

Max, there is some Plastic primer at Halfords (I've been looking at the same thing), then I am assuming (?) that you can then spray on top of that OK?
Dan has sprayed some of his chrome and was going to check with him at the pub meet. Wink

Having seen the evidence hanging in the garage and half of it over Oscar. Dan always uses Halfords primer (matt grey stuff) before spraying with shiney black. He leaves the primer for about 30 mins to dry then 2 coats of shiney stuff. So far so good and it has worked a treat, far better than plastidip which he used to use and has since all been peeled off and replaced with spray.

Hope this helps Max.
