Engine clicking noise on hard acceleration

I think i've broken Bolt! Sad

As title says, I was accelerating hard off a roundabout today onto a dual carriageway and heard a few, three or four, clicking noises from the engine. They are definately engine noises, sound metallic, and I think they're coming from the drivers side somewhere, but that could just be because of where I am sat. Had my window down at the time, which probably made it more obvious, but it has now got me worrying that it's something serious. I have heard it do it before, but didn't think anything of it until I've heard it do it a few more times.

Wondered if anyone else has had the same? Planning on taking it into MINI this week sometime, almost certain they'll tell me nothing is wrong, but wondered if anyone had any ideas as what it might be or if they've had it before as it's causing me to worry! Sad

Have you checked things like oil ect.

The oil is on a computerised warning thingy in mine (i think!) plus it was in not long ago for an oil leak fix, but i will be checking it later today just incase.

It only makes the noise when accelerating hard so I doubt it's lack of oil. But tbh I really don't know! Sad

Well if I was you I would check all the obvious first to be sure

It could be there all the time, you had the window open which you most likely don't other times Neutral

Don't rely on an oil light as a warning of low oil Exclamation

It's not unknown for a "S" to use a litre of oil per 1000 miles and that according to BMW/MINI is within tolerance Shocked

A engine rebuild could cost upto £6k Mad

have you checked the oil yet ?

Checked oil earlier, all fine, sat close to the max bit.

I'm thinking along the same lines as you Dave, that it could have always done it but I'm only hearing it now because I have the window down!

Also, took my dad out in it tonight and he agreed with me the side bits of the centre console (where your legs are) is getting very hot (in shorts its close to burning you), so not sure if that could be related!! Crying or Very sad

Will be taking it into MINI on Wednesday, under normal driving its fine - maybe Bolt doesn't like having to race people! lol!

are the water levels all ok aswell?

No idea - how do you even check them? Embarassed

just the coolant theres a water resiviour bottle with a min and max line and your see the water lever inside and it should be between min and max

so it's not needing to open anything? just look? I'm useless, only recently I managed to open the bonnet on my own!! Embarassed

i will have a look tomorrow then, knackered tonight and can't be bothered to faff around with it anymore today. Falling out of love with Bolt at the moment. Sad

lol all you need to do is open the bonnet and its a see through bottle is you cant see it look in the manual
