PostSubject: Wheel refurbing   1st August 2010, 16:33

Hey guys. I was just wondering if the jcw r105 wheels are more expensive to get refurbed because if the laquer etc on it. Also does anyone know of any good places that restore wheels in the Surrey area. Thanks in advance.

Do you know what kind of price they charge per wheel. Or do they discount if all 4 get done? Thanks goofy

I can vouch for them too, they did my Web Spokes and the quality was second to none. More expensive for my split rims though at £105 + VAT. And as Dan said no discount for 4.

I had the R105s on my previous car and if you are looking at the burnished ones, they will be expensive to refurb due to their finish. Also they WILL corrode again no matter how well you protect them and clean them. It is just laquer over bare alloy so as soon as the laquer gets chipped water gets on the metal. I ended up getting mine refurbed in anthracite, which looked different, was cheaper to do and easier to look after. As the R105s are all 1 piece, they suit being 1 colour.

Well that helps alot. Thanks vicks. No point keep on refurbing them over and over. I'm gutted. Love the r105s. How long did you have yours for before all the laquer came off

No probs! I had mine for about 18 months before I got them refurbed and they had only seen 1 winter and I was anal about cleaning them due to knowing about the corrosion. They are great wheels and look amazing, but are totally impractical (and they are not the only MINI wheel to suffer corrosion), I also know 2 other people who have the burnished R105s and theirs are exactly the same, just a pin prick is enough to start the corrosion. If you did get them refurbed as 1 colour, definitely go dark as I am not sure a lighter silver would work??? But as MINI do the R105s as a matt black as another option, then the darker colours work, which was why I chose anthracite.

Hi

I have just had my R90 split rims done in Surrey by the wheel doctor. They came out to my house and did it in their van with heaters and spray guns, split the rims and dressed the wheels when done - excellent job. I've got some before and after pics if you want to have a look - i'd recommend them for sure (was £50 per wheel)

I'm not sure Marc is still looking for a refurb company, as this thread was started back in 2010! Razz
