Right, if I wash, shampoo, rinse, de tar/bug, clay what do I polish/wax with? Will the megs polish do the trick? Is this enough, or do I have to polish, wax and seal?

Matt black must be the new whatever, I have seen a Bentley, one of those 4 x 4 Porche jobbies and a Range Rover in some kind of low sheen black. Have to say I quite like it.

Go on James.......!!

You will definitely need to wax to give your paintwork protection. Polish will give you no protection and by de-tarring and claying you will have stripped all existing protection. Auto Glym Super Resin does offer a tiny amount of protection, but you would definitely need a wax after. I have not used Megs polish and so have no idea what it is like, but again you would need a wax. You don't have to worry about a sealant, that's just an extra step and won't add anything.

I must admit that I can't offer advice on wax as I have only used the 1 which is very hard wearing and is not everyone's cup of tea as it is quite hard to apply and can leave paint work hazy.

Never used it! Embarassed But I like their shampoo and detailing sprays so there wax is probably great! I only wax Jack twice a year which is why I picked a hard wearing long lasting wax! So it's hard work but only twice a year is worth it! Embarassed

I am a big fan of autoglym aqua wax which I use on chilli & my parents car. I normally use once or twice very two months & still get a lovely beefing affect/shine for a few many washes.

You can apply straight after drying but I personally prefer 2 polish using a.glym then wax. Again like Vickies it is slight more difficult as can leave streaky dropplets but if you rub in quick enough or reapply to the streaks you get what I call some great results - Look back @ my chilli post a couple of weeks ago & you can see for yourself. My parents car is again black & doesn't get washed so often as chilli but still washes up well & beads & that the only treatment it has.

I personally have wasted a lot of money some years bac on meguiars & be never really got on with the products & always gone back to autoglym. Never used there wax either so again can't comment.

Good luck & I look forward to seeing Jacks transformation

Well I started with the megs 3 step, as you know by now includes Paint cleaner (used after a shampoo wash and drying of car) then the polish which I now have substituted for AG's Super Resin Polish (around £10 for 500ml bottle).
Many users endorse this AG product for it's great shining properties and is a reasonable price.

Then you need to seal that shine under a layer of wax, a good wax! Carnauba wax is the best IMO. Many manufacturers produce this wax, which a blended version is included in the megs 3 step (around £10 per 500ml bottle) Interestingly their NXT wax is highly rated as well!
But there are better more expensive versions which you can eventually jump onto! like Dodo Juice's 'Supernatural' (around £95 250ml wooden container refills £65)affraid But remeber this is pure Carnauba so lasts much longer!
http://www.theultimatefinish.co.uk/dodo-juice/supernatural-premium-wax.aspx
The megs 3 part system is a good premium entry level IMO Wink Just remember you don't do waxing and polishing every wash! Around every 3-4 months or when that shine starts to fade! Wink Althoiugh the megs is quite safe on your clearcoat some others are a little more aggressive!

Rob.
