PostSubject: Roof Lining Help??   10th October 2011, 14:01

Hi Guys,

Interested in having my roof lining, the pillars and sun visors done in black.

Not sure how hard this is and whether i could give it ago, or should get it dont proffesionally.

Does anyone know of any good companies that could do this at a good rate?

Cheers Very Happy

Well the roof lining is fairly straight forward once you get to out of the car. you will need some glue something like this GLUE. Spray glue will make it easier for even application and covering a large amount of fabric. You will then obviously need the fabric to cover it.

FABRIC they have a lot of different ones. Alcantara will last the longest and look the best but you have to pay the price. The black perforated alcantara on that site does look good!

The Pillars you could do with the same method as the roof lining without too much difficulty i would of thought. The Sun Visors, grab handles etc will be hard to do in fabric. Im not sure weather you could paint them (i wouldnt) or you could buy black replacements from BMW. However i dont think they did black ones for the first gen. You may be able to use the Second Gen ones but im not sure if they are the same. if you look on the below link you can find part numbers and prices.

It is a nice job too . Thing is ,that its up in Enfield while Trimania is local to me. Would have to be drastically cheaper for me to consider taking it there as no doubt would have to drive there, leave car, find my way back to Newbury & then make return journey to collect it.
The cost of fuel & public transport , plus the time to get it there & back just doesn't seem worth it.
Have seen his work which is great but can get same done locally without the hassle & cost of going to North London. My quote was also for considerably more work than a roof without sunroof & plain headlining. Thanks for the suggestion though. What you lose in one hand you gain with another......
