I have xenons on Bee, and in comparision the side lights look really dull and yellowish. Is it possible to put different brighter bulbs in?

Hi Gill! I put LEDs in mine they are whiter maybe brighter but def a better colour!
Now have a look at my pics

I will run along outside to get some bulb details from their packets that I kept.
But you know there is one person on here that really knows about these LED bulbs and that's Taylor, who incidentally put me onto them!
The only downside to LED's albeit a small one! Is they trigger a no bulb warning when you first start your car up! But this dissapears!

Now Mickey on TM has some other bulbs which I asked for some details about! Never really got back to me! But they look promising in colour too! After all I expect maybe you want the colour to match the Halogens as much as poss as I do!
Now I got to get my spots to match a little better! Rolling Eyes
Hope this helps a little!

Thanks for the info. Am going to put these on my Chrimbo list as they are fairly inexpensive for the children to buy. Are they easy to fit for someone who is not in the least handy round cars!!

When do you use sidelights? I either have them lights on or off, the MINI side lights are so dull I never bother with them - either you want to be see or you don't Wink Maybe this is why auto-lights have no side-light stage?

As T said, they don't look right when they are on together.
And to be honest in some light levels it would be nice to just have sidelights on rather than having the xenons blazing as well.

Yeh i used to drive with my side lights on Smile - not only that - that is the first thing insurers ask you when you have had an accident - did you had any lights on (indicating that you could be seen be the third party)

Sidelights are there so YOU can be seen by other drivers, rather than to illuminate your way, when its properly dark you have to have dipped on

The Highway Code Lighting requirements (113-116)113
You MUST

ensure all sidelights and rear registration plate lights are lit between sunset and sunrise
use headlights at night, except on a road which has lit street lighting. These roads are generally restricted to a speed limit of 30 mph (48 km/h) unless otherwise specified
use headlights when visibility is seriously reduced (see Rule 226)
Night (the hours of darkness) is defined as the period between half an hour after sunset and half an hour before sunrise).

[Laws RVLR regs 3, 24, & 25, (In Scotland - RTRA 1984 sect 82 (as amended by NRSWA, para 59 of sched 8))]

Driving in adverse weather conditions (226-237) 114
You MUST NOT

use any lights in a way which would dazzle or cause discomfort to other road users, including pedestrians, cyclists and horse riders
use front or rear fog lights unless visibility is seriously reduced. You MUST switch them off when visibility improves to avoid dazzling other road users (see Rule 226)
In stationary queues of traffic, drivers should apply the parking brake and, once the following traffic has stopped, take their foot off the footbrake to deactivate the vehicle brake lights. This will minimise glare to road users behind until the traffic moves again.

[Law RVLR reg 27]

Driving in adverse weather conditions (226-237) 115
You should also

use dipped headlights, or dim-dip if fitted, at night in built-up areas and in dull daytime weather, to ensure that you can be seen
keep your headlights dipped when overtaking until you are level with the other vehicle and then change to main beam if necessary, unless this would dazzle oncoming road users
slow down, and if necessary stop, if you are dazzled by oncoming headlights

PostSubject: Re: Side lights on second gen.   6th November 2009, 23:13

Nobody drives on sidelights only at night on street-lit 30mph streets, and the odd one or two who do look like berks and have people constantly flashing their lights at them. Dipped headlights are not glaring or dazzling to oncoming traffic in any weather conditions, the highway code is stipulating against using full beam.

Side lights are a redundant old fashioned thing - either it is bright enough to see and be seen with no lights, or light is reduced in which case dipped headlights should just be switched on. My old MX-5s sidelights were so dim and tiny as to be rendered useless.

Blimey I just wanted to know whether it was possible to get bulbs for the sidelights, so they did not look so dull and yellow compared to the xenons when the lights are on.
If it puts peoples minds at rest, I do not drive round in low light conditions/30 MPH street lamp lit roads with just sidelights on. The autolights are very sensitive and sometimes come on when they are not necessary, in that instance I tend to just switch to sidelights to be safe.

Thanks for all the advice and details. Didn't want people to get stressed by it. getcoat
