Rob....are you a designer? Way better than James design skills! lol!

I will be getting the matte black/vinyl checkers in the not too distant future. They are my fav roofs of all time!! Not many about either

Looks good Max. IMO the stripe should carry on over the roof too, and agree with the others about black grille etc. Rob's idea about having the orange stripe separate is excellent, then it would be relatively easy to change the appearance of your car, if and when you get bored of the orange. I think that the stripe would look cooler on the roof rather than a black roof.

yeah direct line are mean,
Il call again at some point because the story seems to change depending on who you speak to
The first time I called them they refused to insure me at all
The second time they would, but not with my 16" alloys
The third time they would, and alot cheaper than the second phone call

As Dave has said if they did say its OK i'd get it in writting:P

Grill is not a performance mod? Cant see why insurance would be bothered, but sometimes they see young drivers who do ANY mods as higher risk (that includes adding stripes!) but if they said nothing about mirrors I dont see what grill matters?

What??? Your insurers are quibbling about vinyl design sundries??? Sounds excessively restrictive IMO !!!!!
You really need to shop around! for insurers! I know your young but still! I mean the vinyl is a pittance to replace compared to other car parts!
Won't let you wrap your grill till your 25? Good grief! You could get married well before then! Or even start smoking, start drinking! Join the arned forces and kill people with deadly weapons! Buy a house! and furnish it however you like! Own a boat possibly and circumnavigate the world! But no MINI Grill modding! If it wasn't so sad it would make you laugh! Rolling Eyes Mad Laughing

I only modified your car Max not the gloss and matt check S! That is an actual car! I think Phil did this one!
I used Paint and Powerpoint, would look soooo much better shopped! But alas I have no Photoshop as yet!
(must look into something soon as I love doing this) Yep took me a while and it ain't brill but gives you a fair Idea etc! Wink

when i was with mini in my first year they would cover my car for any non-performance related mod for free aslong as it was an official BMW item. This year with admiral i have to declare everything but nothing i have has made a dramatic increase.

LOL
Yeah your right!
Im gonna call them again soon,
I know you only did the pics of my car but i thought it looked amazing, saved it to my PC! Razz

I think the insurers should be ok with wrapping, its replacing it with the JCW grill they dont like which is fair.
Yeah the reson I'm with direct line is cos my dad is with them and they are fairly trustworthy from experience (his not mine Razz)
Maybe I should see if I can get a years no claims and change insurance to one that isnt so fussy next year!
Anyways I'l ask them just about graphics and see what they say,
and ask Phil about costs cos that is the other factor Wink
Anyways thanks for doing those pics I love them, Its really close to what I had in my head before I even got the mini!Smile

I have heard many mixed reviews about directline. I for one was one of them that was no happy. I had a minor accident early on after I passed & they budged the repairs.

I think your better trying to go alone as that's just stupid about the grill etc

I saw earlier on TM Emma from Lohen had compiled a list of insurance companies may b worth a look - Not on
my laptop so can't linkie but sure one of the others can do it.

I know it's hard as a young man but they just sound wrong!

Hey your welcome glad I could help out!

I insured my daughter.... Sorry I am still insuring my daughters car! 5 years down the line she has full no claims on her own insurance! Was ajoke the first couple of years 1st year around £1500,. Second £580. 3rd £460. 4th around the £400 mark! Fith year £240! (3rd party fire and theft as the car is only worth around £500 if that now!) and she hasn't paid me a penny! YET! (working on it)

My son Max (18) is about to re-start his driving lessons so I have been saving up for 3 years now to help cover the costs of car and insurance! I know boys get hammered with their first couple of years! Some friends of ours have quoted me in the region of over £3000 for their boys first year insurance! Jaw Drop

Hey Dawn yeah I saw that list earlier!
I think i'll stay with direct line for this year anyway and see how it goes, then change next year if they are very restrictive!

Rob it is really bad you are right!
Mine is less than £3000 luckily but not by as much as anyone thinks is appropriate!!!
I have to say I do get the whole boy racer mentality thing is the reason its so expensivem but its abit OTT.
Also as Mods go you would think it would depend on what you are doing,
fitting a grill and fitting a turbo are 2 very different things! Razz

I know that young lads are a little more asertive with their driving behaviour (all that testosterone ) and that stats do add up negatively for them! But I still feel that their is a bit of a financial rackett going on!

Max, have you taken the "Passplus" since passing your test??

Some insurers will give discounts for having taken it Smile

Give these a ring www.adrianflux.co.uk/passplus it must be worth a call Exclamation

Maybe the insurance companies need to think abit more,

If they did they would realise that the only way guys can pay for their insurance is by entering illegal street races Suspect
They are encoraging bad behaviour...

maybe...

A modded car becomes more disirable which in turn makes it more attractive for car thiefs!!

Only prob with that is how long has the car been insured & are you just a named driver on your own policy as the dicount works on only Under a years validation.

I managed to insure my first car on provionall on my own & then passed & the did pass plus & was told I couldn't get any discount.

The skill I learnt were second to none & well worth learning & highly recommend it but watch out on the saving

I'm taking nearlly 6years ago si may have changed lol
