PASS PLUS is a training scheme for new drivers. It's much more than just a few extra lessons. This specially designed course by the Driving Standards Agency (DSA), with the help of insurers and the driving instruction industry, helps you

gain valuable driving experience safely
you will be taught how to deal with a wide range of road and traffic situations, many of which you probably won't have faced before
build on your existing skills and knowledge
it can take years to become a skilled driver. PASS PLUS helps get you there by speeding up the learning process under expert tuition
reduce your risk of being in a road crash
the course will help boost your awareness of all kinds of hazards and help you learn how to anticipate, plan for and deal with them safely
save money on car insurance premiums
naturally, you will have to pay for the course. Fees for the PASS PLUS course will vary depending on where you live and the instructor or driving school you choose. Bear in mind too that it will take a minimum of six hours, all of which need to be taken after passing your test. If more sessions are needed for you to successfully complete the course, this may add to the cost.
When you have successfully completed the course, you are advised to check available discounts offered by the insurance companies taking part in the scheme. The amount you save will depend on the company you choose, you may even save more than you paid for the course.
boost your confidence
if you feel nervous driving on your own, the PASS PLUS training can help you become more confident on the roads
give peace of mind to your loved ones
PASS PLUS consists of six practical modules which cover driving in town, in all weathers, on rural roads, at night, on dual carriageways and on motorways. You can take it at any time within the first 12 month of passing your test.
There is no test at the end of it – your driving will be continually assessed and you must successfully complete all the modules in the course to an achieved or exceeded standard:
achieved – successfully reached the standard required for each of the competencies
exceeded – exceeded the required standard for each of the competencies
In exceptional circumstances, if a module can't be done on the road it will be covered in a theory session. The highest level you can reach is 'achieved' as you've not been able to demonstrate the relevant practical skills.

Don’t worry if you haven’t got a car at the moment, you may be able to defer the discount for up to two years. Again, check with your insurance company.

If you passed your test more than a year ago you should check that you’ll be eligible for the discounts on offer from your insurance company before you take the course.

Yeh defo do it really good for the skills even if you dint get the discount & the do a lesson the motorway which if you haven't done already will really help.

Another one to look up although don't it's valid for your area is the young drivers course @ goodwood run by west Sussex county council. I've done & well worth doing if you can again I did put didn't want to but througly enjoyed it you do skid pan training etc & if you pay extra you even get a ferari drive. Sorry no link again but google it

I am sure your parents would b happy to pay for these as there great course & the skills you learn are brilliant

i did pass plus a few months after passing last year. Before i Was paying £2900 on my first mini one. Then after taking pass plus it went down to about £2300 so it was a big jump for 6 hours of extra lessons!

hi all - sorry been away moving house recently so only logging on today.

Stripes look fabo Wink

IMO Mat black with gloss orange will be stunning - believe me Wink

I would also do the roof - unless budget forces you not to ??

Also, if you get the ok from your insurance - how about gloss orange top/bottom grille with orange lamp wrap ??? just a thought Smile

If you email me we can chat budgets and costings and so on.

That is alot!
Mines £2500 atm
I think I should use a diferent company for the lessons mind you,
I was with the AA and doing the pass plus with them, and getting the 10% saving direct line will give me, im still £10 in the red Suspect
I know the extra experience is probs worth it, but the AA are just too expensive IMO

For those of you interested, MINI insurance that is offered to you when you buy a MINI is Direct Line - same company. They do NOT favour mods - my premium was £530 fully comp but to add the JCW backbox exhaust they wanted to hike it to £890! I switched to Adrian Flux and got £514 including backbox/air filter and airbox.

Direct Line are really suited to general hatchback/saloons that people keep OEM - they are very competitive for that, even for new drivers. But if you plan any mods, they are a bad way to go.

Insurance is all worked out on software that calculates risk - the worst thing you can be is a young lad with a desirable car and a fondness for modification! Sorry Max!

The only problem with this is that AF doesn't become effective for a young person getting insured unless you have a lot of mods. They will openly admit that they will not compete with other rates. Its normally best to try and guess what mods you will make in the next year and ask for a quote with and without so you can get the best deal. Admiral are quite good until you hit 5 mods, then they will not insure you.

Either way, if you can, get it done max! It will look like the mutts nuts, dogs balls and canine crown jewels all rolled into one!

Lol!
Looks like we picked a good company then!
Tbh i dont think il be doing alot of mods, so maybe admiral is the way to go
Thats so weird that direct line would insure me nd mini insurance wouldn't if their the same company!

I think il leave it for now,
if they ;et me do it i will, if they dont Il save it for abit, ive got time! Razz
(providing i don't hit anything)
