PostSubject: P-Torque Stage 1 Remap (2 or 3 maybe?)   24th February 2012, 13:44

All,

I'm thinking of getting my JCW WC50 re-mapped by P-Torque, I have spoken to Will and he talks about quite a large jump in both BHP and ft-lb with a straight forward Stage 1 map. They also offer a Stage 2 and Stage 3 which adds a new (larger) Intercooler for Stage 2, Stage 3 also adds a de cat downpipe.

The price jump from Stage 1 to Stage 2 is more than double, Stage 3 is well over the grand mark, prior to committing to the level of madness I want to inflict on 'WC I was wondering if anyone had any experience of P-Torque remapping on factory JCW's? (Or an opinion?!)

Cheers Very Happy

Well i ahve had my cooper s mapped by P Torque and Evolve,
1st P-Torque you will be good hands but personally would not just have just re-map, you would be better off with sports cat, intercooler and re-map as your car will need this to get the best out of it eg: IAT temps will rise with remap as bosst pressure is increased so the cooler the air the better alround performance as the ecu wont retard fueling and timing. As for sports cat/De-cat(Non MOT) beat pound for pound gain totally free's up the power without a remap.

Evolve just as good as P-Torque for mapping but with the benifits that there products are developed and tested (Proven) against all other leading brands so i personally would bye there Intercooler and sports cat.

So to conclude don't just have a remap.

Paul,

Many thanks for your reply; on that note I am going to call Minicraft on Monday to ask them to quote a price to fit an Evolve Sport CAT and Evolve Intercooler. I assume from your post the Catless downpipe would be an MOT failure on emissions?!

If Minicraft are sensible on pricing they can install the parts, I can then drive over to Evolve to get them to run it up on their Dyno and map accordingly Very Happy

Garry, can recommend MINICRAFT always a good price/service, also try our traders they offer excellent service as well, you are correct de-cat mot failure sports cat can bring up your eml light but if you remap it then no issues.
I hope you like your exhaust to pop and bang because with a sports cat it sounds awesome,
once all this is done you should see around 250-270bhp dependent on how strong the engine is eg:needs de-coke etc.

I currenty run 270-280bhp on evolves items but have there Hybrid turbo you will have a large smile on your face.
Next up if you have not done it yet is get rid of run flat tyres and get some coilovers and suspension mods.

Paul, my JCW has done less than 6k miles so I don’t think a de-coke will be required!

I spoke to Minicraft this morning and it all sounds very sensible; I’ll call Imran at evolve on Monday to get it all lined up.

I’m going for an Evolve de-cat, Evolve Intercooler then get them to re-map. One thing that did come up was the recommendation of a new blow off valve; Terry at Minicraft recommended a Forge item; I have looked on the Forge website and don’t know which one would suit; any ideas?

Can’t wait to get the mods done; as you say I will be looking to drop the car and ‘opt out’ of run flats at some point; this will have to wait until after Mini United though! Very Happy

Garry, i had this and had to remove it as it gave me no end of problems, personally i would stick with the oem one but try the Alta stiffy spring upgrade (Lohen) as i feel it is a good mod for the money and have had no issues withboost cut.

Lee, no not for general sale at present Imran done me a big favour, regarding upgrade you can bye kits off the shelf but you will need to find a tuner who knows theer way round the ECU.
If you want a bolt on uograde look at getting the FJCW one

Well done Garry, good to see you are getting the parts before map this will give yhe ecu time to adapt to them, make sure your car runs on shell optimax or tesco momentmen as you will get the best results with it.

That's amazing. It's a pity your JCW isn't 284 instead of 248!

This make's me smile, just have re-map get car serviced by BMW then have to have map put on, there you go bmw own switchable map which they wont charge you for.
On a serious note go for it, you will wonder why you spent the time considering it.

Evolve do a R Cable box which allows you to take it off and put it back on whenever you feel like it

Comes in at £499 thats dyno remap and R cable box

Got more important thing to do 1st - My JCW needs new tyres

I am not sure what to get any ideas?

I tempted by Continentals Sport contact 3 non runflats

Silly question perhaps.......is it possible to get a switchable map controlled by the sport button as, unless it's me, I don't really notice any difference except more feel in the steering?

Or perhaps I'm not driving it hard enough....... Very Happy

The sports button doesn't give any more power just makes things more responsive as you notice in the steering.....
