PostSubject: Security Bolts for wing mirrors   16th April 2013, 12:48

Hi all!

I have just purchased the security bolts for the 2nd gen wing mirrors. I now have the issue of fitting them! What do I need to get the original bolts off? One of them is right under the upturned mirror but I don't have an allen key that is the right size or shallow enough to fit under. Any tips or a size of allen key??

Thanks!

Have you powerfold mirrors Vic? as I think I read you need to take the cover off!

I guess one way would be to just change the bolt that can be reached Smile

You need a allan key, not sure what size I'll see if I have one (this could be easier said than done if your see my garage) ....

Ah! Yes I do have powerfold mirrors! Sad This is not what I wanted to hear! On my previous MINI removal of the cover resulted in broken glass and paying for a new one! Not such an easy job as I was thinking then. Was hoping for a 5 minute bit of work.

I know I definitely don't have an allen key to fit as I have tried all mine in the bolt that I can get to, so if you do have one that fits, that will be brilliant Dave. Suppose if it takes me ages, it will deter would be thieves! Very Happy

Still replacing one is better than none Smile

I'll see if I can find one to fit.

You going to Berry on Sunday?

Just a thought if you're going to TWG I bet they have the right size alan key and only takes a few minutes to change the visible ones Smile

Is this a common thing then having wing mirrors stolen? I've not heard of this before until reading this thread and I'm keen to find out more and also how much these security bolts cost
