PostSubject: Rough starting JCW    25th July 2013, 13:21

Hi. I took my JCW to the West Country last weekend and ever since then it has not liked starting from cold. It sounds like its on 2 or 3 cylinders and then when your rev it is pops and bangs really loudly and tries to cut out. Then after a minute or so it cures itself and runs perfectly.

Any ideas??

Dodgy plug maybe?

Coil pack?

Got to be electrical I'd say!

Warranty job although they will say they need to hear it which will mean leaving it!

Vines did mine last time, wanted to charge for a loan car so I contacted MINI and had a go about it being a known issue, not my fault etc. so why should I pay for a loan car? Within the hour Vines contacted me to say there was a FOC car waiting. They had it for 3 days.

Barons never used to charge me for a loan car though..

I just get them to come and collect it and deliver it back when done. MINI want give you this option unless you ask.

I've checked it again this morning and its still bad. Also checked the management system and the are no errors/faults showing so hopefully the dealer will sort it under warranty

Do you have a code reader? There will be stored codes which should help pinpoint the problem. I'd have checked this for you if I'd seen the post earlier but I'm not around again before Thursday. Let us know how you get on.

spoke to the technician who will be working on my car when I dropped it off earlier and he said that he was 99% sure that it will be the fuel pump. I guess I'll find out tomorrow

PostSubject: Re: Rough starting JCW    2nd August 2013, 12:05

Just had a call from Barons and it was the fuel pump. So that's been replaced as have all the pipes in the fuel system. Hopefuly thats now sorted the problem. Can't fault Barons for their work they've done everything I've asked without an issue. I only hope that they took notice of the big signs I placed in the car telling them not to wash it!!

Just picked the car up and what a difference!! The car is fantastic, so I guess that the fuel pump had been failing for a while as its never driven this well. They found other faults with the car that had been caused by the failing fuel pump so I guess all that being sorted has made the difference. Can't wait for this and next Sunday now.

the service guy said that its a "known" fault with the JCW. But its not a recall as its not a safety issue. They will replace it only when it fails
