They don't seem to be needed with all the other lights. Zenon and two built in fogs. I'm not too keen on the way they look so ....

.. why should I leave them on the car?

I had spots on my last Dark Silver clubman purely as I liked them but decided not to on my present clubman as now prefer the cleaner look....

Doesn't help you I know but it's your car to do what you want Very Happy

I like the spot light on Mini's. On some they just set them off. Smile

Daveboy, I wasn't asking for anyone to make a decion for me, sorry for being unclear.

I was just asking if you thought they were of any use. I think they're a bit weak compared to everything else on the car. However if thet do light the road better I will keep them

I'm not keen on them, prefer the clean look.

Mind you my first Mini had 4 huge Lucas rally type fog lights. And one on the rear. I had a quick remove wire to that so I just pulled it out when stopped for having an illegal reverse lamp

I agree with you Norman, I liked the look of them but felt they looked weak when compared to the Xenons.  I tried seeing if I could get uprated (whiter) bulbs for them but to no avail.

R53 bulbs are quite easy to change - provided they've not rusted on! A screw on the bottom of the light means the whole front comes off. I can't remember what type of bulb they are, H7 rings a bell but I've not got a first gen with spot lights to check and it's ages since I had mine in bits, anyway I changed the bulbs to brighter ones and they made a huge difference. Worth remembering on the first gens they're not bi-xenon lights - the full beam is a standard bulb.

I'll be in the UK at the end of the month, will see what bulbs are fitted and may get an upgrade.

Only had the car a week and upgraditis is setting in. Must seek medical help!

Took a bulb out and it's an H3.

Looked on halfords but not sure if they have anything other than h£ halogen.

I'll have another root now.

Back soon if I find anything.

Now I'm going to spend hours pondering what I was doing with a H7 bulb! Must have put it in something somewhere!

OK, bought these xenons from ebay. I'll put the link up if you need it.

2X 100W HIGH POWER H3 BULBS XENON SUPERWHITE FOG LIGHT SPOT LAMP -XX3

I suspect they're illegal at 100w, I think 55w is max.

Not sure about France.

Comparing my previous MINI with the current - both had xenons but only this one has spot lights I'm very surprised by the difference. The spots in my opinion make a pretty big difference in illuminating the road.

I haven't got int the jargon yet. I have Zenon headlights, 2 built in fog or spots and 2 of the factory option spots bolted on the front.

I'm over in Sheffield next week and will pay Halfords a call an purchase 2 HBU448UB. I think they're £15 a pair. I have ordinary H3's in at the moment. If they are good they can stay but if it's marginal the spots will come off.
