PostSubject: Naff sticker on body kit rear bumper   26th May 2014, 18:51

Hi,

My mini has the extra body kit on it (I think it's called the JCW body kit, but I'm not completely sure). The rear bumper has a very naff sticker which is supposed to look like a metal grill, but it's now drying out and cracking at the edges.

Has anyone done something to replace this sticker, or cut it out and replace it with a real grill of some form?

Thanks in advance

Martin

I believe you can purchase replacement decals to replace worn/damaged ones with - I saw a discussion about it on one of the FB MINI pages Very Happy eBay is your friend!

I got some for my r53, about £25ish from BMW.

They're actually metal backed, a bit awkward to get off but it can be done and will make a massive difference. They're also much more silver when new too

Oh wow that makes a huge difference doesn't it? Thanks very much, I'll get buying!

One other quick thing, I'm also finding this bumper isn't very well secured at the bottom near the exhaust pipes. There is several inches of forward/back play like it's missing a mounting point, but with the exhaust where it is, it doesn't look as though there is anywhere obvious to secure it to? Is this normal or am I missing something? Smile

That's normal they are very flimsy read aero kit bumpers on r50/53 and r56! Plus you can get some nice black ones for rear bumper from graphic companies

Perfectly normal. I'm not sure where the receipt has gone so I'm not sure on the part number but they're a fairly popular part and were available the day or so after i ordered. I ordered on the phone but if you're near a dealer it might be easier to pop in!

Mini Sport Group Link to the foils, in case anyone else is interested in the part. I can't see these listed on New Mini Stuff?

That's an interesting alternative, thanks for the link.

BTW, I peeled the old foils off yesterday, what a PITA!! They were so brittle I could hardly get an inch to peel off before the foil snapped and I had to use a razor blade to get an edge up again. Took me about an hour to do and I've not cleaned off the remaining sticky yet  Mad I invented a few new swear words doing that Smile

Not sure on those black stickers, look a bit er...

Autoglym tar and glue remover is good for that. Or if you're feeling brave, thinners!
