PostSubject: Drivers door mirror - I broke it   8th August 2014, 22:03

I hit a tree this afternoon. Smashed the mirror but no other damage.

Where can I get a replacement without needing a bank loan?

I've had second hand bits before from BMS in Doncaster ... might be worth giving them a try?

Neil, thanks. I've tried to buy on line but only allows UK addresses.

I'll ring them later today.

It goes like this.

I rang on Monday 11th August. They had a mirror I needed, heated and power fold. £103.95 plus £30 post. Give my credit card number. After 8 days and no mirror I ring. The chap in dispatch says he'll ring me back as he cannot find the dispatch note. He doesn't. I ring next morning. He says I've got to talk to Pam but she's not in today. I ring next morning and Pam says it definitely went. She will check with the shipping company and email me back. No email.  So I wait another week and phone Pam again. She says they have a package returned at the other depot and she'll find out if it's my mirror. She will email me. No email. I ring next morning and, yes, it is my mirror, the shipping company say they do not have my address on their records (my address is on everyone else's file but that's not BMS fault). Problem is the mirror is broken and they do not have another in stock nor do their supplier. Will I take a good second hand one if they have one. I say yes I will and Pam says she will email me. No email. I ring next day. They can put a good one together but it will have an unpainted (black) cover and it's not power fold.I say I'll accept that (by now I'm getting desperate not having a drivers mirror).

UPS deliver two days later. I fit it but find the electric plug is different so I now have a mirror with an unpainted cover, no heated glass, no power fold and no electric adjust. I'm not happy.

I propose they order another new one and when it's in we'll swap the wrong one for the right one. They seem not to think that while I was prepared to not have the power fold and an unpainted cover I should accept this. I do not and propose they either take it back and give a full refund or send the correct connector and I will change them over so I have heat and adjust. This was on the 10th.

Still waiting for a response.

Oh, and the price remained the same except the postage was different but the total still came to £133.95. They have offered to reduce the price but haven't said by how much.

Not sure about UK prices but the Angers dealer priced it up (3 parts) at 345€ and then I'd need to get the cover painted.

So the £103 wasn't too bad at that price. I'm not complaining about the price but the attitude which appears to be that I should be happy because I accepted that I would have no power fold. I did say to them that I cold have shaped a piece of Dexion and glue a piece of glass on for nothing and I would have the same as their £130 item.

345€ is £274 at today's rate.

No response from BMS. I've spoken to the credit card company who suggest I send it back recorded delivery and send them a precise of what's happened and proof of delivery and they will raise a refund.

So it will go in the post today.

In the meantime I rang Mr Mirror Man in Oldham and a new, correct mirror should be here by the end of the week and it was £10 cheaper.

Still no response fro BMS

It's on its way back and the paperwork in on its way to MBNA

All companies make mistakes, it's the way they deal with them that sorts good from bad.

The mirror arrived from Mr Mirror Man. Perfect. Correct mirror, correct wiring plug, and it all works. Also £15 less than a second hand one where nothing worked.

BMS should be getting theirs back next week. I suspect they are going to say it arrived broken. However it's gone to my office and will be hand delivered to them for which they will have to sign for it and declare it's in good condition.

It's wonderful to be able to drive with a mirror again.

I haven't forgot this. The mirror is now at my office in Sheffield and someone will return it signed for as in good condition today or tomorrow.

The credit card company will invoke a refund as soon as they have proof of return.

If, for some reason they do not I'll issue a County Court Summons.

Having waited two weeks for my son to take it back and get a signed document that it wasn't damaged he didn't have time and posted it back.

Bet they claim it's damaged on delivery.

You could say that. It's just their attitude and twisting everything to make themselves right that has got me on my war horse.

Lets see what happens over the next few days.

At least we know where to get replacement mirrors from in the future, or should I say where NOT to get them.

By the way I popped into the BMW dealer in Angers. The mirror from them with unpainted cover was 253€ At today's rate that's £200.

Good luck with getting it sorted!

Ouch, that's a lot of money! Mirrors are so expensive though, I remember when a pheasant hit mine and sheared it off, a brand new one would have cost a fortune - I managed to get one on eBay in the end fortunately!

Mr Mirror Man, in Oldham was cheaper for the new, correct mirror (with powerfold) than the second hand one from BMS which not only didn't have powerfold but had nothing else due to the wrong electrical socket.

Mirror is now back with BMS.

Credit card company have been informed but I haven't heard what they're doing. I'll ring them in the morning.

Is this the website for the Mirror man below?

If so I will use them in future and recommend to others as a mirror specialist with good prices and service.

Yes, that's them. Excellent service. cheaper than the one that didn't work and this one works a treat.

I'll be phoning MBNA on Monday to find out what's happened to my claim. If they reject it I'll raise a claim in the county court. It's not only £135 but the attitude and total lack of care.

MBNA are on to it. I've been asked to supply some information to the supplier. Went off same day so shouldn't be long now.

Got a fax from MBNA today informing me they have credited my account with the money claimed. BMS have 16 days to appeal. Can't see how they can as they have the mirror.

Just to complete this. The time BMS had to challenge the refund has passed. So, apart from the aggravation, the only cost was return postage.
