PostSubject: Aqua gleam water filter   30th April 2016, 13:12

I bought an aqua gleam water filter a while back and have just got round to using it and wish I'd used before as it absolutely brilliant, relatively expensive but brilliant. You can get them online for around £60, but if your water is as hard as mine then it will only last for about 10 washes before needing to be replaced. Shocked

http://www.theultimatefinish.co.uk/aqua-gleam/0ppm-de-ionising-water-filter-12.aspx

I have very hard water here which leaves spots all over the car when it starts to dry, but the aqua gleam basically deionises the water and removes all the calcium. So when I now rinse the car with it it leaves no water spots and makes the car a lot easier to dry.

For those of you who like to clean your car this (for me anyway) is an absolute must and I've just ordered another one.

When I get my extra tap fitted at the front of the house where the car is washed I will be getting a filter system for exactly this purpose - good to know they work well, can't wait! Very Happy MINI Wash

Got me interested. How do they work and what sort of cost are they?

Hose in hose out, like yours but with more resin in so last longer.
The big one will do around 2860L @ 100 ppm.
Once resin is exhausted just open it up and replace it.

I have an aqua-gleam - very good on a warm day when you are fighting to stop the car drying. I agree, not cheap but they do work.

I will agree there not cheap, and non refillable, according to there figures in a hard water area you will get 20 rinses @ 10l per rince =200l affraid

i Recon you will get at least 1200l from out large one, then just refill it Cool

P.s
This is not a sales pitch Wink

Might need to look at this as I'm in a very hard water area.

Washed Dynamo last night and thought I'd done pretty well in drying him, this morning in bright sunshine can see all the water marks.

Do they go lower than 100ppm? the Aqua gleam ones are either 0ppm or 30ppm

This has reminded me I have one of these.

http://www.ebay.com/bhp/mr-clean-auto-dry#

They were made by FLASH and called the auto air dry, they were great but not available in country now. You can get them on Amozon and eBay . There the same principle with filters that last up to 10 washed and only cost £1-2 to replace.  Never have to dry the car it use to dry with no water spots. I need to get it out again and send for some filters.

My dad still uses his and he says he gets the filters in the £ shop

Yes they go 0ppm, they all do, I did not explain it well.
It's all about resin life, with the best resin we use it will filter 260l per litre of resin @100 ppm! (100 being the incoming water main)
So if you have 200ppm (incoming) than it will be 130l and so on.
Once the resin is exhausted the ppm or tds will start to climb, it still works but water marks will start to show again.
That's when you just change the resin which is 30 to 40 quid ish then it is good to go again.
It works out cheaper in the long run. Hope I have explained it well enough, if not let me know.

John,

Sounds good.

How do you know when the resin needs to be replenished (the Aqua-gleam changes colour) - is it simply when you get water marks?

It is all sealed inside so you can not see it.

Yes you will get water marks when its tired,
You can buy a TDS meter and keep an eye on it.

In that case i won't take the pea. Very Happy

Yes wash as normal, keep the car as wet as possible as you go, then when your done rinse with filtered water and then you can leave it to dry naturally or dry with a towel.

Thanks for that John

Only reason I was unsure is that I'm a window cleaner. I happen to have a pure water filler take where I can take tap water and get it to 0ppm.

Would these be the same ?

I know about the filtering water process.
But I was told that using pure water on a car was bad.
As it can make the paint go flat over time.

On paper yes i have been told and read that too. But is seems to be a myth, everybody seems to use it, people seen to make it for the car industry, so it cannot be all bad!

In that case then I'm going to give the car a good clean as soon as I get home.

Thank you very much for explaining that to me John.
