Changing down gear on approach to a roundabout and ping, off comes the trim from the top of the gear lever.
Left driving with four nasty sharp bits of plastic sticking up on top of the gear lever. Ouch!

Phoned Vines. No, of course you cannot buy just that bit, don't be silly, you have to buy the entire knob at £76! (+VAT?)

Sod that, made up a glob of Araldite and hopefully once that sets hard it's stuck on again.

What is it with BMW and cheap materials?

  • Gear lever trim.
  • Handbrake trim.
  • Fuel filler cap cord.
  • Squeaky door window risers.

Quality brand? Doesn't look like it, why would I buy another MINI next time if they fall to bits so easily?
Think I'll be looking elsewhere at my next car changeover.

If it doesn't work I've the one from my JCW clubbie, came of on delivery, same as other Gen2's except red lettering.

It will be cheaper than Vines for sure Wink

Never heard of a gearknob failing. I've seen a couple of handbrakes do it though. My fuel cord is looking perished, worse than my One Seven's despite that car being 10.5yrs old! Squeaky windows is a problem only noticed on the r56 for me too - seals needed cleaning apparently though never been a problem on any other car!
