Good news for the UK the electric mini will be built here

See link below. I wonder if it will be a f56 electric model or a complete new model

It is good news but under the surface it was both inevitable and to some extent means that MINI can keep its' options open-

Inevitable because they will make it on the same line as the other cars so you keep the costs down (save for the motor which will be assembled in Germany)

and in terms of options if they ever have to move production they can move it all

Will be interesting to see how popular they are. The issue for me with electric cars is that nobody is tackling the end to end electricity supply issue. The talk is that if more than 5% of cars in a street are electric the supply infrastructure will need upgrading. We shall see.

Exactly! I live in a new build apartment and here we don't have electric chargers outside not even a plug socket anywhere near the car park so I wouldn't be able to charge it even though I quite like the idea of one.

And today's announcement is that the sale of diesel and petrol cars will end in 2040 (by which time they will have all the current taxes on them - a challenge because fuel currently is more than 50% tax and electricity is only 5% - it will be interesting to see how they deal with that)

So it may be a good time to train as an electrical contractor because they are going to need a lot of those.......

I'd rather they did a petrol electric version of the f56 before a fully electric then I can get used to the idea...
