Over the past month or so, every now and then, when I unlock the car the alarm goes off. Now I was wondering if the MINI alarm system works like my parent's last Mitsubushi Shogun, in that if someone clips the car or tries to open it when it is locked the alarm sounds upon opening it next to let the owner know. Does anyone know if this is the case or if mine is just playing games with me?

Off the top of my head i would say to your question that it does not have that function. Check teh owners manual though - I may be wrong. It's in a folder in your glovebox

I didn't think of looking in that! I'll pop out and get it from the car in a minute, thanks Paul.

I think the light just flashes a bit differently when you unlock the car, to warn you that the alarm has gone off (though if you were walking up from behind the car, you probably wouldn't notice it anyway ). I have heard of something similar happening to people, but I can't remember what it was - think it was a trip to the dealers though. you are using the right key aren't you

I'm going into Sytner on Monday, so I will ask them then. I'm pretty sure I'm using the right key, but you know what I'm like!

I'm at Sytner now and asked them about this. They've checked the system in the car and no faults have been listed by the computer thingy, so it's a case of living with it. Also as it's only happening every now and then I can't show them it!!

In fact, if there is a person with a spanner and dirty oily hands taking your car keys off you, you know you are in trouble.
