| As you know, I only have Basic Bluetooth, which I find absolutely fine for my iPhone. It takes all my contacts and allows me to call them from the car's radio, and sound quality is fine. I can have the phone plugged into the USB & Aux socket too and use it as an iPod at the same time. The only thing I can't do is charge it. Full Bluetooth allows you to charge the phone and I believe boosts the phone's reception, but don't know about using it as an iPod at the same time on a pre facelift R56. |

| I don't know if this is correct, but I think the basic bluetooth allows you to make/receive calls & sync contacts. I think the full bluetooth allows you to stream (wirelessly) stereo music, and control the device (track forward/back). Album art is not supported. |

| How odd - I have basic bluetooth but it definitely charges my iPhone through the Y-cable? |

| Slightly different thing, even if you had no bluetooth you could still charge through the USB. It's like plugging your phone into one of those wall socket USB chargers it just supplies the juice to charge the phone The bluetooth (in this case) allows the Mini to talk to the phone to make calls etc. If you disconnect the USB I'm sure you will still be able to make calls via bluetooth. |

| With Basic Bluetooth you need the Ipod Y cable to utilise the music on your iPhone via the head unit. With full bluetooth it does it wirelessly. Both give you full bluetooth phone activation - making & receiving calls plus access to the phone book Steve |

This doesn't apply to pre facelift cars though. I have full bluetooth but cannot use the armrest if I want to use iPhone music, and have to stick to the Y Cable. The only use the armrest cradle gives me is the boost it gives the phone signal. |

Everything I have read states that this is the case on the current model though. Steve |

| I think you also get voice control with it too and the option to program numbers into the car for voice dialling |

I was also told my car had it when I bought it - it was only when I went to get a snap-in adapter I was told my car didn't have the media box to make it all work, and that I could only use the charger & signal boost functions of Full Bluetooth! |

| there are 2 types of snap-in adapters There is the one i have which just charges the phone & another which nortonski was selling which i think has either media or music printed on the snap-in for the media snap-in i think you have to have option SA6NF for full media |

| Whether you can charge an iPhone or not depends largely on they type of Y cable you use. The cable I had in my pre facelift R56 wouldn't charge the phone, the one I have now, in my new JCW does, but I also have the Media Pack with full Bluetooth. As far as I am aware, the features will vary dependent on model, full or basic Bluetooth and the Y cable used. Steve |
