Sounds about right.

I'll check with my wife when she gets home (she works for an insurance broker) and let you know.

Insurance never makes sense Emily!

When Andy changed his ONE for his current S, he said the change in insurance was negligible. Infact I think me and him pay similar on our S', and I'm almost 30 and him 21!

Best thing to do Emily is what I do and get some dummy quotes online via price comparison sites. So grab a Cooper S number plate, put in your details and it will tell you how much it would be now. Gives you a rough guide for the future.

It is worth noting that these sites record and remember every change you make.

Also, if you do use another Cooper S number plate, if it is on a car that has, say, been written off and repaired and put back on the road the system may know that. Some insurers won't touch write offs.

Having been in the insurance industry for 25yrs it's still a mystery where or how some companies come by their premiums...........

Here's my input....

Check excesses, you most certainly will have a high compulsory one plus a voluntary one, nothing unusual to be £500+.......

Add either your mum or dad to the policy, having a older named driver will bring your premium down......

Try to limit your mileage, ie. you only do 7000pa then pay for that and not 10000pa....

Next one will be hard but mods will or could make a difference and ALWAYS declare, if you don't and involved in a accident you might not get paid out!.....

A Gen2 Cooper S could be cheaper to insure than a Gen1.....

Give me a shout if you have any other questions.....

No that's a 12 month policy. It was an extra £35 from my one to the S for 5 months. Insurance is due 1-04-2012 and getting quotes around the same figures. Forgot to mention also when I took that policy out I had 3 years NCB, now 4.

If you are looking to cancel your current insurance, so you can take out a new 12 month policy, you need to find out if you need to pay any cancellation fees.

Your insurance company should be able to give you a quote on "todays" prices.

Not sure when your renewal is but sometimes better to pay the difference for the remainer of the year to gain a extra years NCB Smile

My 18yr old brother pays £1,700 on an R56 S with the JCW kit having had a license 2 weeks, so I'd say thats probably a fair quote.

Adding our dad (50+ engineer) to both my policy or his actually puts it up!!! As a 20yr old female I'd say you're in the right region of prices. Once you're 20/21 it seems to drop a lot (mine dropped by about £1,000 and I'm only just over 21!)

Have you tried an Admiral multicar policy? You'd still be able to keep your own no claims and be able to set your own excess, and that may save you money - brings mine down by about £100.

Admiral do seem to be a lot cheaper for me, although their excess is higher...

I'm 19, coming up 20 and I paid about £880 insurance with Admiral for my ONE and that's with a claim (which was not my fault! Mad ) but still have my NCB as I paid them back!.. Also, Dad was Additional driver 1 and Mum additional driver 2. Had my dad as a named driver then added my mum a year later which took an £100 off! When I put my mum as additional driver 1 and dad as 2, if worked out more expensive!!

When I was changing my policy, the man on the phone said there is no difference in price whether you be insured for SDP or SDP+C.. also think there was only a small increase of about 30p for change in annual mileage!

Insurance is very confusing, the way they come up with ridiculous quotes! You may find that just by changing things like where your car is parked overnight can make a change in price! .. I assumed that by parking my car on the drive would be cheaper than parking on a street but in fact it was the opposite! Laughing

The reason on a street is sometime cheaper is because of the increase of people breaking into a house to steal keys. If the car is on a road it is harder for thieves to target specific houses/cars.
