Hi all, The clubman needs a new windscreen after a countryman flicked a stone at me on the M1. Insurance goes through auto glass who are refusing to put a genuine MINI one in. Any advice, or ideas how much a screen would be outright?

Looking at going to BMW now, as excess + increase in premium next year is likely to be around the cost of a replacement i hope.

A windscreen claim shouldn't effect your next year premium... But have heard of some people getting a hike! If mine did that I'd soon be changing!

Who are you insured with? I got a letter a while back from Coopers saying you can take your car to be repaired wherever you like - you don't have to use their recommended repairer. I'd look into whether this applies to windscreens and go from there...

My insurance us with Highway, via Greenlight as a broker. So their repairer is Autoglass. My sister has had 2 windscreen changes and her premium rose, a friend suffered similar on his Megane.

I think most insurers will let you pay the difference if they insist in not putting in a genuine screen.

The week I sold my S I had a new windscreen put in as she had 5 chips. The chap from autographs came said I could have a MINI screen fitted for an additional £150 and that was for a heated screen as well, but would of had to wait a week more. I would of paid the extra if I hadn't been selling.

My windscreen cracked on route to the Oxford plant tour the other day, so I will be putting MINI UK insurance to the test! I will let you all know how I get on? I hope they use OEM screens as I have heard third party ones can effect the rain sensor operation, although I don't know how true this is?

Hi Brain It was nice to meet you and your lovely MINI last week at the tour. Just before I sold by Cooper S last November I had the windscreen change due to having 5 chips/crack which had developed over her 7 year . Thought if would be more appealing to the buyer to see a chip free windscreen. Went straight to auto glass and they done a really good job and I had no problems with rain sensors after. If I had been keeping the car I would of paid the extra and also waited another weeks delivery to have a genuine MINI screen to be put in. It was not worth it for me at the time. I never even went to MINI insurance, only delt with Auto glass and they delt with the insurance. Good luck Chris

Had a screen fitted in my r53 the other week by autoglass sadly not covered on my insurance. They first quoted £800 then when I stopped laughing they said £400 and that was a non heated bogo one !

Cheers for the info Chris, I tried to call them today but they were shut for routine calls. I was just going to enquire on who they use as an authorised repairer for windscreens as there policy states they use only genuine MINI parts? Will that include windscreens I wonder? I don't want to pay any more for a genuine item though. At least I know the rain sensor will still work with a auto glass replacement.

Yes the screen fitted also told me the cost of a heated and rain sensor one is around £800 that if you not going through insurance . If you have you screen replaced don't watch it being done . It hurts to see some pulling you pride and joy apart. I had to look away. It brought tears to my eyes Mike Did it have the MINI badge etched in the glass

Just booked my car in for it's Windscreen to be replaced. Auto glass are MINI car insurance preferred repairer. I have been told it will be genuine MINI heated glass (Policy states like for like) and is ordered from an authorised dealer and will include all the trims etc. £75 quid excess paid. So fingers crossed for next Wednesday.

Just had my windscreen replaced and was happy with the overall job and fitment. It was OE glass and the technician replaced all of the trims and clips. I then left it for the specified hour before moving the car and then noticed a deep scratch in the centre of then screen. How did I miss that? Long story short the screen needs replacing again in a weeks time after the adhesive has set! Some day something will go right for me first time!

OMG your not having much luck. Ask for some sort of compensation.
I thought about it but they were very apologetic and gave me no hassle with a replacement. If I get any grief after this one then I could be losing my patience fairly quickly and taking further action. |
