Hi guys, Had a cable put in for me at a show to swap the bass speakers over on my clubbie so that the bass now comes out of the rear speakers. Can anyone tell me how I can take this out as will need to when I change my clubbie and it cost fifty squid so dont want to leave it in.

I'm not 100% sure, though I know a couple of people have them installed on here - PhilK was one of them, with his old Dooper. If he can't help, then as Dave says, give Mikey a call and he'll be able to tell you

I know It's behind the plastic cover on the left of the passenger footwell. If you go on the new mini stuff website or have a search on total mini you will find a picture guide Have fun. Takes about 10 minutes

What Mike said, the swap over cable sits just above the bonnet pull, behind the cover in the passenger footwell.

I did this mod by swapping over the pins in the adaptor and can say it made a huge difference. Highly recommend this mod!

Hi, have been looking to do this mod myself however on some forums it says that if you have the hifi upgrade then don't bother as it's already done. Any idea how to know if you have this upgrade already? As far as I know mine doesn't but is a 2008 with what looks like a standard setup but has tweeters in the pillars Thanks

dave_a I have a vague idea in the back of my mind that around this time there were two audio upgrade options: The cheaper one was the OEM hifi upgrade which 'only' added pillar tweeters and didn't swap the channels f->r and the more expensive was the HK option which involved upgraded speakers in the front and rear with tweeters included in each; pillar tweeters were in the front. Again, I vaguely remember that there was nothing to be gained to channel swap the HK upgrade so it must already have been wired sensibly with this option. I'd imagine the HK option has it stamped somewhere obvious, though, but the hifi option definitely had unbranded pillar speaker covers. (I've got a pair of these in the attic and can send a pic them if it helps) Another complication, if it's not stamped and not 'OEM hifi' Mikey's channel-swap upgrade would have been well-hidden at the back of the radio before 2010, when the passenger footwell option became available, and it was a real pig to fit...Or it may have been a d-i-y channel swap via pins, but the tweeter cables positioning might give that away. This might be a clue: Weren't the various warning pings meant to come from the rear but might indicate the swap by coming from the front, I wonder? This is what happened with 'park assist'... Hope this jogs a few memories.

The MINI hifi upgrade option was pretty good, I had it in my last clubbie, I'm sure it wasn't just tweeters but also bigger amp and extra speakers.......

Hi Davyboy. Yes, you're absolutely correct. I've just been on RealOEM as an 07/2008 MCS and the hifi upgrade has 'meatier' speakers, c/w separate individual tweeters, f+r. The front tweeters might have been put in the A pillar trims? Or it might have been an option? I've still got a nagging feeling that the channel swap wasn't a part of that upgrade, though. Top of the range was the HK route with special/2ohm (?) speakers and separate amplifiers to drive them via a different in-car set up which didn't need channel swapping. Does that means that the channel swap + MINI hifi upgraded speakers would be an even better 'in-house' sound? I wonder if anybody's done it? Those components should bolt straight in. Hmm...I wonder how the price compares with the full stereo upgrade at NewMINIStuff, which seems to be the 'standard' for comparison.

As the current occupier of Daves old Clubby I can categorically say that the sound quality of the 'HiFi' upgrade is a bit better thanks to the tweeters to that of the 'Boost' in my old Cooper D after I had done the channel swap. Still not a patch on the HK though.

I'm guessing from your post that your old Cooper D had a channel swap without tweeters and your new one from Dave has A-pillar tweeters and better speakers as part of the MINI hifi but we're still not sure if it was channel-swapped as part of the MINI hi-fi option... And yes, the HK was a big money option, wasn't it, so it ought to be much better than anything else?

You've got it spot on. When my car was built, HK wasn't an option I believe, only HiFi. The HK made it's return to the options list in 2009 I thought?

That's correct the MINI HiFi upgrade was the option in place of a HK system at the time... I also had it in my 2007 clubman

I think I've just probably got the standard hifi upgrade as it's a boost cd with what looks like unbranded tweeters in the front a pillars. The rear parking sensors seem to beep in the back speakers so I'm guessing the next step is to check if this block where you swap the pins round is in the passenger footwell?

dave_a, sounds to me like you might well have the hifi upgrade, which would to be an option for a 2008 build, if you have grey/anthracite A pillars inc tweeters that are discrete and unbranded as HK. I don't think it was channel-swapped at the factory by MINI since this might serve to be likely to compromise subsequent HK sales. If the warning sounds come from the rear, assuming they're not biased by the radio settings, this adds substance to your thoughts. If a previous owner d-i-y'd your A pillar tweeters it would have been the most difficult (and least v-f-m) back to front task IMO to 'do' tweeters only w/out the channel swap - which would make the job easier and more 'complete' (and better v-f-m) in my experience. If this was the case the swap loom could either be behind the radio or in the passenger footwell depending on when it was done. And if it's not obvious in the footwell I wouldn't want to take the dash apart and get the radio out to investigate (I've been there once and still got Mikey's instructions...but what a job it was!)

Thanks Chris for guiding me on this, I'll take a look in the footwell this weekend when I get the chance to get out in the car and will try to get some pictures or something. I don't really fancy taking things apart or buying a converter cable if it's just not going to work

| Job done ye olde way, no extra fittings required, and it took under an hour to complete. Certainly does make a very very worthwhile difference to the sound.
