MINI have issued an inspection bulletin (PUMA) for all MINIs with the new N18 engine. This is any varient of MINI with the LCI N18 Cooper S with valvetronic engine (2011+) and JCW - which started using it late 2012 (2013 Model Year)..
Due to oil leaks found at the solenoid valve oil can wick up through the wiring harness from a sensor in the oil pan. If it gets far enough it can get into the DME and fry the computer - potentially killing the car.
I took my 2013 Cooper S Roadster in for something else today and got them to check it - they confirmed an oil leak at the solenoid valve and need it overnight to be fixed.
