Is it the OEM one or a MINI aftermarket one? sounds like the first! TBH even with the clip they don't stay shut, My first 2 MINI's weren't great, this one is a bit better! Not sure if you can get the part from MINI if not try a breaker

There are some little sort of lugs/clips, which hold it closed, it's probably those which have snapped or something. You can buy replacement tops, here's a link to realoem which shows the individual parts, it's possibly just number 3 you need http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?model=MF72&mospid=49645&btnr=51_6289&hg=51&fg=35

Yeah it's a bmw one. I took the top off and you can see there's two plastic bits broken. I am ideally not a big arm rest fan but it's In there so might as well keep. Thank you for your help. Would b a good thing to fix. It's a pain when you pull away it slides back.

Hopefully you can just buy the top bit, if you ask at the dealers they'll be able to check with your reg/vin and make sure it's the right part number, as well as give you a price

Haha might just get stuck some how. Not bothered about it being in use as in putting things in it.

My oem one drove me mad so I actually took it our myself and sold it on. Was always hitting my elbow on it, just got in the way. Its pretty easy if you wanted to talk it out but you'll need extra parts

You can order the bits separately for the armrest, I did. Have a look on www.realoem.com for the part number
