ok since breaking down as I discussed in my other un-answered thread, it has come to light that I have the super knocking code.. also I have low compression on all cyclinders, 3rd one being the worst. Now what exactly could this be.. and is this a new engine time?? also reported before back in December 2012, my engine decided to blow up due to coking issues.. and I was treated to a engine rebuild under warranty. do I have some leg to stand on in regards to getting Mini UK to sort this out? currently sat being investigated at a local bmw/mini indi garage.. any help/advice appreciated.

Doesn't MINI work carry a warranty? I'd be banging on their door anyway! _________________ "Life's too short not to!!"

BMW MINI work should have a 2 year guarantee. Are there any other codes? What happened when it broke down, splutter or missfire or just loose all power? _________________ TWG Automotive Website

Mini work does carry a 2 year parts and labour warranty BUT what they don't tell you is if it's 100% warranty then your only covered up to the end of your cherished warranty. If I had paid even £1 towards it before then I would be straight down there.. Will... Your lucky bcos If the AA man told me sooner I could be taken anywhere cos I have all the cover available.. I would be knocking on your door but only told me as we were driving towards Bristol!!! I was looking to over take on a dual carriageway and stuck my foot down, it chocked a bit some white smoke came out and lost 50% power. It had no warning lights and still runs, just very lumpy like a misfire no more smoke. They apparently tested the spark plugs and coils and there fine, just low compression on all cyclinders 3 being the worst apparently.

Only 2 things it can be valves not seating properly or piston rings worn

If the valve doesn't seat properly now why did it happen almost suddenly? Will a simple decoke sort this out??

Possibley also depends if timing is spot on as valve might be slightly open on compression stroke these engines are known for timing to move. Give sussex road and race a ring they might advise

Could be anything I take it youve had timing chain checked? I only found out yesterday that theres a small valve behind the engine that lets oil go to the vanos solinoid and it blocks which causes noisey valve gear maybe that would be worth checking but it would be to hard to explain whete it is.

Gaz, it's had the timing check and is fine. Just wonderered whether it's an intake valve not seating properly so maybe worth a seafoam or decoke first.

Ok spoke to the garage and they suspect it's valve problems so the head will need to come off.they are not happy with doing this job as it's not something they tackle normally, they just service and mot so on to the next plan

In my opinion you really need to go to a garage that deals with these all the time I would defiantly give Josh a call at sussex road & race I know its quite a drive for you but it will probaly be well worth it.
