Years ago I had a horrid smell for ages in my classic daily drive. I took it to several places and in the end I found a pack of pork chops that were 4 months out of date and gone down behind the spare wheel well. It was alive and the smell horrendous. They must have fallen out a shopping bag. I since tied the ears of all carrier bags.

Here you go!
A lousy old lump of pink bubble-wrap caught on the exhaust pipe. Pipe gets hot, plastic melts and gets very smelly.
Once I found it I removed the majority of it, and the rest shall slowly melt and burn away.
