Diving home, stuck in queue, the queue moves on, but I have little / no power. Pulled-in, turned everything off, counted to ten, started up again. Got the yellow engine icon again three more times on the way home. Logged it with MINI, now waiting for a man with a van load of tools to turn up. Any one else experienced the yellow engine icon on a MCS?

That doesn't sound like a fun journey home, can't say I've experienced the same - I have read the engine does the power save thing to preserve itself so I guess it's a positive it did what it should?! hope the mechanic can make it go BRMMMM again soon!

Hi Lee, It happened on the hill by Canon. Managed to slowly crawl to the car-park at The Angel. I was Ok-ish after that put no real power. OK! BMW said no, phone a dealer. Did that. 2 mins later, dealer phoned back. No! Phone MINI. So MINI Emergency came out, plugged in a mile of CAT5 and chunky laptop. Computer says, "High Pressure Fuel Pump Fault" (Or something like that?) Techy guy returning first thing tomorrow, following me to Vines. He'll discuss his diagnostics and get the hire car sorted. I'll let you know what hire car I get. Has to be similar he tells me. Now, I need a  What! No  smilie?! Outrageous!

Sorry to here the problems Richard, hopefully it won't take to long to repair. When I had to use MINI Emergency, they rent a car from Enterprise and I had a 3 series! Unless you swap your insurance it's a big excess but it can be reduced to nil which includes windscreen and tyres etc. for a fee, I knew I'd be having one for at least 2 weeks (turned out to be nearly 3) the fee was something like £10 or £20 a day!!! I argued the toss and they halved it with a maximum cap of £50 which I thought not to bad as the admin fee on my insurance was £20 which would have been x 2 for when I put it back to the MINI.... Anyway good luck _________________ "Life's too short not to!!"

You will be on their insurance and it has if I remember right a £1000 excess!! You have the option to transfer it to your own (don't know what excess you have) and have that excess. The trouble is any little mark they will bill you for at whatever rate they charge for repairs...... _________________ "Life's too short not to!!"

I've had that happen to me, a 55 reg ONE. A pupil had just come off test. Car would only move 5 mph. Limped round corner and remembered it had happened to Andrew's 52 reg S. Got out, locked and unlocked the car and sorted. Thank God it did it after her test.

Ah! Interesting, I guess the 5mph is what I had until I stopped, switched it off, and started up again. Now waiting for engineer to return at 08:30ish.

Bumble will cruise no gas at 5 mph (saves diesel on a lesson) ha ha. It was the locking and unlocking of the door from outside that did the trick. It did not solve it from doing it inside. And I lost all of dashboard instrumentation.

| Hire car is a white 63-plate 1-series diesel. Excess at £250 & paid £20 for 4 days' windscreen & tyre cover. How can a 1-series seem so huge? :-| |

Now you say £20 for 4 days that's what mine was £5 per day. Pretty sure the excess was nil and covered windows & tyres etc. I had a black 1 series, boring but nice easy driver.... _________________ "Life's too short not to!!"

All fixed and back on the road Monday. Whilst it was there they did the brake fluid service, what they didn't do, was reset the service indicator. Is this the correct procedure, or should it be done by a dealer?

Vines checked it out, it's for the front pads at £170. MOT and TLC service all due too, so will book it all in for a day sometime soon.
