Drove a couple of miles on Saturday very conservatively and then had to slow right down in a queue of traffic, slowly moved forward and at about 10mph the engine clonked and stalled and just died. No warning at all and my car had been driving lovely up until this point. Any ideas anyone, just to cheer me up ?

Maybe fuel pump? How is it running now? Any further information would be helpful.

Is it still dead, or now that it is cool does it start again? If it does and then dies again when warm suspect the crankshaft position sensor.
Is the Mel light on?
You need to read the codes before doing anything else.

How about this for the cause of my breakdown, Snapped Camshaft.
Mini R53 2006 with mileage of 52k . OEM Mini Camshaft broken clean in half.
