My 2008 R56 Mini Cooper S (had from New). has this fault now for a while. I frequently have to set the date, time, etc. When I use the car the next day all the settings have gone and have to set it all up again. It’s got to the stage now I don’t bother setting it up. Guys any ideas My hunch it’s the Battery as it’s 10yrs now!!! But I don’t have any issues Starting the car. Help!!

It does sound like it could be the battery Len, might be worth giving Will at TWG a call to see what he thinks

Hi Len, I used to get this message on my clubbie for well over a year until I sold it, dealers always said give it a really long run but it still came up, not everytime I used it. Then spoke to a guy who seemed to know his stuff and told me one of the battery terminals (I can't remember which) has a sensor built in and is often the cause and not the battery. Could be your issue. Are there any fault codes as he checked mine and found one (can't remember the number) and no warning lights present but said it was the sensor.. If the battery I'd have thought you'd have starting problems! Or Will (TWG) might have an idea.

Yeah that'll be the battery, ten years is good going! Do you do lots of short journeys? Mine did that when it was getting on.

Thanks guys for your info & input. Dave I will give Will a ring to see what he thinks But as suggested it’s looking towards the Battery (sensor). Which I assume you have to change the battery itself!!!

Yes I do, do short journeys, but becourse I do low miles, I try to fit in long journeys too. If you understand what I mean. But thank for your input George.

Hi Len We keep both GPs plugged in on trickle charge optimisers to prevent the batteries going low as they don’t get use for the winter/6 months at a time. 10 year battery its done well

Thanks Chris for your help and all you guys I rang Will, but he out. Will have to ring him again tomorrow. Dave on my Mini I don’t get any codes displayed. Looking up this sensor lead it looks like it’s built into the -ve lead.

Cable number 1 should be the one, guess if the battery is 10yrs old it won’t be its best. We had one last 15yrs on a Nissan Micra....

Dave on my Mini I don’t get any codes displayed. Looking up this sensor lead it looks like it’s built into the -ve lead. TWG is very busy there at the moment. Just pick up the Cooper from there this afternoon and had to wait 4 weeks for her to get new discs and brake pads. Hope you get it sorted and we see you soon at an event |

Spoke to Will at TWG. Assured me it’s the Battery (10yrs) any slight voltage drop will cause alsorts of electrical related issues. Booked in with him for fault+Service.
